It was another solid day on the track for both the Orrville boys and girls teams, and several Red Rider athletes have punched their ticket to Columbus for next week's state meet.

See below for a complete list....

Record Falls
Nicole's efforts in 100m hurdles set a new OHS track record and bested a mark that has stood for more than 20 years.  Her 14.90 time tied the record set by Jenny Musser in 1987, but Gregor's may be the new standard since today's time was digitally captured (hundredths of seconds are used).  Gregor's 45.52 was just off Musser's school record of 45.34 set in 1988.

The Orrville track records list has been updated.  Click here.  Please scan it over and let me know if I've missed anything.

Good work everyone....and congrats to ALL of the regional qualifiers.  I know some were VERY close to making it to Columbus but just missed.  In no way does that diminish their performances today and all throughout the season.

Congrats also to Coach Ayers & Mosley and all their assistants.  Lots of hours and time away from their family, but they deserve plenty of thanks and credit as well.

Orrville Boys Finish 4th, girls 6th at Div. 2 District Meet

It's probably one of the two biggest weekends in the Orrville Track season....The Division 2 district track meet at Red Rider Stadium. The other biggie in track season is the Orrville Invite, but since that was rained out this year, the District meet at OHS took on a little added importance this year.

Add in the fact that this would be the final district meet hosted at Orrville for the next two years (due to the upcoming construction of the new high school & parking restrictions caused by it) and it was all the more important for the runners, jumpers & throwers, coaches and supporters of the Orrville track program.

Fortunately, each of the boys and girls teams qualified a number of athletes on to next week's regional meet at Lexington. Read below for links to results and a list of athletes now one step closer to the ultimate goal of appearing at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus at the State Track Meet.

OHSAA Enrollment for 2011-2013..and the "Orrville Impact"

It was a simple tweet from the awesomely awesome OHSAA twitter feed, but it made my day..

“Now on OHSAA.org - OHSAA releases enrollment numbers for 2011-12 & 2012-13 school years.”
Numbers geeks and high school sports fans all over Ohio know exactly what this means…it’s time to redraw the divisions for all OHSAA sports based on enrollment numbers. This applies to all sports, but especially football, where not only are divisions re-drawn, but it sets in motion realignment of the state’s 24 regions, which can change the landscape of high school football in Ohio more than anything else.

Continue reading for what impact this may have on the coming football season.

UPDATED: 2011 Orrville Football Captains Named & Red Rider Stadium News

Two items of note for your Mother's Day weekend, and both revolve around football.  I know it's still spring sports season, but we're right around 100 days away from the kickoff of the 2011 football season....so it's  good a time as any.
