A little bit of everything

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  Been a great one for me.  I'm trying to get out from under all these projects I'm half-started on before another football season gets underway and I'm slowly but surely getting there.  Made some nice progress that I'll share. Also have some football scrimmage dates, the latest Smitty Classic lineup, some new faces on the "College Riders" list.

Let's go.

Lists aplenty
I've updated several historical lists under the "Football" menu tab.  First is the complete win/loss record for each season in the most recent decade (2000-09).  Here's a direct link.  One thing to point out, each season in this decade now has a link to that specific years final OHSAA computer point standings (from my Computer Points Database, naturally).  I'll work backwards and get that done in the 80's and 70's as well.

The next updated list is the Historical Opponents Win/Loss record.  We added two new opponents last year (Genoa and Ottawa-Glandorf) for what it's worth.  Here's the direct link to that list as well.

I think that's it.  Between the new Captains List, the All-Time Record, breakdown by decade, and the All-Time Opponents Record....we've got a nice little online "media guide" here.

Smitty Classic
As mentioned in the Sunday Daily Record, the 6th annual WQKT Steve Smith Holiday Classic has been finalized.  The paper mentioned this being the 7th annual, but I only show it being the 6th, first was in 2005.  This year's classic will take place on Saturday December 18th at the College of Wooster.  The schedule is as follows....

Norwayne vs. Manchester
Northwestern vs. Avon
Dalton vs. Lutheran East
Triway vs. Brunswick
Wooster vs. Olentangy Liberty
Orrville vs. Hillsdale

I imagine this is the schedule in time order, but don't know for sure.  Orrville has won each of their previous five games in the Smitty Classic (defeating Loudonville in '05, Walsh Jesuit in '06, Lima Senior in '07, East Liverpool in '08 and Smithville in '09).  The game with Hillsdale is a rematch of the 2009 Division 3 district semifinal, won by Orrville.

Monheim Mention
Orrville junior Mason Monheim has been mentioned as a notable linebacker in the Class of 2012 in Ohio by the Ohio State-focused Bucknuts.com.  The site links his ScoutingOhio.com profile which is up over 3,000 pageviews.  Mason put up some impressive numbers at Orrville's recent skill day (speed, strength and agility tests)...and the college attention he will get is well deserved.  He's set to be the next big recruit out of Orrville, following recent grads like Chase Hoobler, Sam Miller and Max Pirman.  He's healthy and ready to have a big junior year on both sides of the ball.

Scrimmages
Speaking of football, the Red Riders will take part in their first scrimmage this Saturday (August 14th), 10am at Red Rider Stadium.  They will take on the Minerva Lions.  The 2nd scrimmage is also at Orrville on Friday August 20th vs. Louisville.  This scrimmage will mimic game-like conditions and will also take place at Red Rider Stadium and start at 7pm.  Admission is free for both, but donations of bar soap will be accepted.

College Riders
The list of Orrville alums playing in college has been updated, see here.  Again, I ask for your help in keeping this list current.  If there's someone missing, someone that has transferred, walked on, or anything else that affects this list, please let me know.  Email me or leave it in the comments.  Thanks.

Coming Up...
Getting back into the busy season, obviously you'll see a football preview post coming soon...and I think I'll be able to churn out one more season in the Football Playoff History series.  The 1992 season is next on the docket.
