Football: Orrville vs. Private School Opponents

I'm "borrowing" this concept from the very nice IrontonFootball.com blog site (Here's their main site).

The following post will detail the private school opponents that Orrville has played over the years.

I'll detail it by year, and then sum it up at the end.

1926
Akron St. Vincent (before they merged with Akron St. Mary) - 6-6 Tie

1927
Akron St. Vincent - 0-0 Tie

1928
Akron St. Vincent - 6-13 Loss

1938
Canton St. John - 19-0 Win

1939
Canton St. John - 29-0 Win

1940
Canton St. John - 34-0 Win

1941
Canton St. John - 26-13 Win

1942
Canton St. John - 19-32 Loss

1943
Canton St. John - 0-20 Loss

1944
Canton St. John - 7-20 Loss

1945
Canton Central Catholic - 33-13 Win
(Canton St. John and Mount Marie Academy merged to form CCC)

1946
Canton Central Catholic - 6-6 Tie

1947
Canton Central Catholic - 26-0 Win

Note that between 1948 and 1966, Orrville played no private schools.

1967
Toledo St. John - 6-0 Win

1970
Canton Central Catholic - 0-7 Loss

1971
Canton Central Catholic - 8-16 Loss

1972 - Not sure how to classify this one...we played Lancaster Reemelin and won 46-0.  From my own research, it appears this was a reform school for juvenile offenders. It was founded in 1858 as the Ohio Reform School and Charles Reemelin was their first director. It was renamed the Boys Industrial School in 1884, then the Fairfield School for Boys in 1964. It was never referred to as Lancaster Reemelin in the research I found.

1980
Cleve. Benedictine (Playoffs) - 0-7 Loss

1983 (First Season with two private school opponents)
Louisville St Thomas Aquinas (Playoffs) - 15-8 Win
Cols. Bishop Ready (State Final) - 15-43 Loss

1984
Warren JFK (Playoffs) - 21-0 Win
Elyria Catholic (Playoffs) - 13-14 Loss

1985
Cols. St Francis DeSales (State Final) - 13-22 Loss

1988
Steubenville Central Catholic - 24-21 Win

1989
Canton Central Catholic - 14-17 Loss

1990
Canton Central Catholic - 15-16 Loss

1991
Canton Central Catholic - 16-21 Loss

1992
Canton Central Catholic - 10-21 Loss

1993
Canton Central Catholic - 3-27 Loss

1994
Canton Central Catholic - 14-21 Loss (6th straight loss to CCC)
Cleve. Benedictine (Playoffs) - 54-27 Win

1995
Canton Central Catholic - 34-7 Win

1996
Canton Central Catholic - 27-6 Win

1997 (First season with 3 private school opponents)
Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary - 29-7 Win
Canton Central Catholic - 7-14 Loss
Cleve. Benedictine (Playoffs) - 7-28 Loss

1998
Canton Central Catholic - 52-21 Win
Youngstown Ursuline (Playoffs) - 28-24 Win

1999
Canton Central Catholic - 28-29 Loss
Akron Hoban (Playoffs) - 59-21 Win
Poland Seminary (Playoffs)- 21-31 Loss Thanks to 2 eagle-eyed commenters...I had this one wrong. Poland Seminary is actually a public school. The school was sold to the Poland City Schools for $1.00 on the condition that the school always be called "Poland Seminary." Read here for the full scoop.

2005
Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (Playoffs) - 14-21 Loss

2006
Canton Central Catholic (Playoffs) - 48-27 Win
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (Playoffs) - 21-50 Loss

That's it. Forty-three games against private schools (and one in question).  18 wins, 21 losses and 3 ties.

Playoff record of 6 wins and 7 losses.

Most points scored was 54 in the 1994 state semi-final win over Cleveland Benedictine, most points given up was the 50 allowed in the 2006 regional final against Mooney.

Largest margin of victory was 31 in the 1998 regular season win over CCC.

Most games against one school has been against Canton Central Catholic, 17 games....6 wins and 11 losses.

We haven't played a private school in the regular season since 1999...and I'm guessing as long as we belong to a conference, that should stay that way.

Despite the name Poland Seminary is a public school. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poland_Seminary_High_School for the details

Surprised to see our record against C.C.C.. Still, it's a shame we don't play them anymore.
