Reality
After going 3-1 in a tough four game stretch to open the season, many Rider fans look at the next 2 weeks as the only breather on our schedule. Simply, Orrville will be the favorite this week and next week against West Holmes, and barring a collapse, SHOULD win both and come into the first-place OCC showdown with Ashland with a 5-1 record.

Of course, this is the kind of attitude that gets teams beat. Luckily the coaches are working as hard as ever to prepare our kids so the slightest hint of a letdown doesn't show up.  There's still plenty to work on.

What the Tygers bring to Orrville
Senior will bring in a team with talent and a 3-1 record.  Their 3 wins come against teams with a combined record of 3 wins and 9 losses.  All 3 of their opponents wins were by Cleveland John Marshall, who beat 3 teams of even more suspect ability.

Senior's next win over a quality opponent will be their first.

I think most thought Clear Fork would beat Senior last week, and they did, but only by 8 points, 28-20, and they have to comeback from a 14-0 1st quarter deficit to do it.  I was impressed with that showing.  But I'm sure Coach Bradley and the Tygers aren't in the mood for "good" losses or moral victories.

TygerFootball.com
Another week, another solid website run by our opponent.  TygerFootball.com is full of info, rosters, game recaps and stats.  Very impressive.  Here's the link to their cumulative stats on the season.  Take a look at the whole thing, but pay special attention to their scoring by quarters at the very top.

They've outscored opponents 70-3 in the first quarter, and 118-24 in the first half.  That's impressive.  But that really changes in the 2nd half, where they've only scored 25 points all season in quarters 3 and 4, and just barely outscored their opponents (25-22).

This is a team that starts fast....if Orrville's D can hold them early, it may be the start to a good night.  They don't strike me as a team that comes from behind all to well, so getting an early lead and some early stops will be key.

While we're at it, here's a link to their roster.

Tygers to Watch
Terrell Dorsey (Jr. #24, RB/LB) - 394 rushing yds, 5 TD.
Terrance Deener (Sr. #6, QB/DB) - 400 passing yards, 5 TD.  Two Rushing TD's as well.
Jacob Supron (Sr. #22, WR/DB) - Leading Receiver with 110 yds. and 2 TD's.  Also, 2 defensive TD's on the year and team's leading

Coach Davault & Wins
Was looking at coaching records the other day, and noticed something about Coach Davault in relation to his 2 predecessors, Mo Tipton and Coach Mac.  Coach Davault is 35-15 in his first 50 games as Red Rider field boss.  It took Mo and Mac 54 games each to get the same number of wins.

In terms of length of time to get to 50 wins, Mo was 4 games into his 6th season, and Mac took 5 full seasons, to get to 35 wins.  Mo didn't have the benefit of playoff games, of course.

Just thought that was something.

Thoughts and Predictions
I'd like to see this team start making strides towards becoming more consistent.  I think our play still teeters on inconsistent at times, but it's coming along.  Maybe this is a week to take some of the workload off of Tre Simpson.  He's getting dinged, seemingly, every week.  Spread some of his carries around to Matt Davis, Mason Monheim and Stew Turner.

Good week for sophomore Kyle Lichti to continue to develop against an athletic defense.

This is a game we should win....but any shortcomings in execution, penalties or turnovers will make the evening tougher.

Other Predictions
CalPreps.com says Orrville 34-19

Drew Pastuer's Fantastic 50 says Orrville by 20.  Also ranks Orrville's schedule strength at #4 in all of Div. 4.

WMFD.com's users say Orrville by a 70% to 30% vote.

The Daily Record WILL pick us to win (and break the streak)....either 8 votes to 1 or 9-0.  That guest picker is always a wildcard.
