Here & There

Best time of year, IMO, to be an Orrville sports fan. Also means there's a lot to report on.

It's the best.....and the worst.
Volleyball
The Lady Riders defeated Northwestern 3 games to none last night, setting up the district final tomorrow night at Smithville, against Smithville.  The Riders beat Smithville earlier in the season in 2 games at the Kewpee (?) Invitational at Bath High School, but the game was very close.  This one is for a district championship, so I'm sure both teams will come ready to play.  Neither team has lost a set so far in the tournament, and both ended the season ranked in the top 12 of Division 3.

Still in v-ball news, Erin Short was named OCC player of the year and Coach K was named OCC coach of the year.  Six other Riders were named to the OCC All-Conference team.  See all the details here.

Congrats to those honored, and good luck tomorrow night.

Bonfire Non-Offensive Marshamallow Roast & Adult Party
  • Tonight (Weds.) is the Beat Wooster Adult Party.  Festivities will be held at the Hut of Pizza on N. Main St.  Pizza and soda will be consumed, and many stories will be shared.  The event is free to attend.
  • Due to the volleyball game on Thursday, the Beat Wooster parade and lighting of wood pallets will be pushed back to 8:45pm, or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the game in Smithville.  Pyromaniacs unite!!
Vote Tim Or Kyle
The Daily Record is doing a "Player of the Decade" poll on their website and the 2 Red Riders on the list need our help.  Honestly, don't stuff the ballot box.  Go here and look at the nominees (poll is on the right hand side).  Vote for the player you think had the best career.  Currently, Tim Hiller has 17% of the vote and Kyle Simmons has 9% of the vote.  Leader is Smithville's Kyle Kauffman, with 30% and Wooster's Joe Gantz with 25%.

Game preview will hit tonight....stay tuned.
